About our Industry.
The transportation of energy from a power station undergoes a long and complex journey of voltage change and safety checks before it can be delivered safely into your home or business.
When energy is freighted over long distances it is done so at a very high voltage to minimise energy loss. This voltage can be up to 500kv (500,000 Volts). Energy at such a high voltage is controlled and directed at a transmission sub station. As the energy approaches its destination a safer and more usable voltage of 66kv or lower is required. This transformation takes place at a sub transmission/zone sub station. A final quality check of the electricity is performed before it is sent to the distribution sub station, where it is transformed to a low voltage of 415v or 240v and then delivered safely to your home or business.
The electrical transmission and distribution industry continuously monitors this process to ensure maximum reliability and safety at each stage of the process – from the power station to its point of delivery in your home or business.
